Casa Anadia olive oil is the heir to an ancient tradition that dates back at least to the 17th century, the time when the old manor house with a chapel was built, today part of the Quinta do Bom Sucesso estate in Alferrarede.
This manor was erected on lands formerly belonging to the Almeida family, Alcaides Mores of Abrantes, and its architecture clearly reflects a rural vocation, with agricultural facilities—such as the olive press, still in existence today—located on the ground floor.
In this olive press, it is possible to see a topographic map from 1819 that depicts an olive grove already laid out in orderly rows, a truly remarkable fact for the period. Given its time of development, this olive grove dates back at least to the time of the manor’s construction, that is, to the 17th century.
The castle, as well as the various buildings on the property, together with its gardens and vegetable garden, are classified as buildings of public interest.
From the 1990s onwards, the conversion of the olive grove began, as the centuries-old grove was not suited to modern cultivation techniques.
The olive groves on the estate cover an area of 100 hectares. Between traditional and intensive olive groves, both international and Portuguese varieties are grown. The latter give rise to Ribatejo PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) olive oils.
Some of the existing varieties include: Galega, Cobrançosa, Picual, Arbequina, among others.
The production also includes olives harvested from centuries-old olive trees located on the estate.
Casa Anadia olive oils are the result of three different terroirs in Alferrarede, with clay, limestone and schist soils in the north. The result is unique blend olive oils, a perfect alchemy between the varieties and their corresponding soils.
These are natural, unfiltered, extra virgin olive oils—fruity, fresh and complex, always with low acidity—the outcome of centuries of accumulated know-how, history and production.
