The swan song was inevitable for this unloved plot of Monte da Bica! But nature responded, not with the typical power of Castelão, but with an extraordinary elegance… After all, we didn't uproot Castelão.
"Let each one leave happy, but those who stay will be missed."
The Varieties:
100% Castelão.
In the Vineyard:
Area of 0.34 hectares located in Lavre, 18 years old. The Mediterranean climate provides a wide range of temperatures, and the transitional soils from clay to sand in this extreme Alentejo region allow, despite low productivity, conditions for ripening with great aromatic expression and retention of freshness. Hand-harvested, transported in small 12 kg boxes to the winery.
In the Cellar:
Bunches selected from the vineyard are destemmed and transported by gravity to a small wine press, where they ferment at a controlled temperature for 7 to 10 days. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation follows, lasting approximately 15 days. After pressing, the entire wine is transferred to French oak barrels.
Aging:
10 months in Tronçais barrels.
