As Fontainhas

Maçanita is a project by two brothers and winemakers who explored the terroirs of the Douro. There are so many of them, and they are so different, that as early as 1935 a classification system from Letter A to Letter F—with benefits for higher grades and none for those below Letter F—was established and remains in place to this day. Class A comprises the plots with the greatest ripeness, which have brought so much fame to the Douro; in Class F and below, the opposite is true. With less power and concentration, they were pushed toward abandonment. But there are still forgotten treasures—vineyards planted in bygone eras that confirm the existence of various Douros. This is one of those vineyards.
