Madeira Barbeito Sercial Frasqueira 1978 MEF: Exclusivity and History in Every Drop
Discover the Barbeito Sercial Frasqueira 1978 MEF, a Madeira wine of exceptional quality. Sourced from the Seixal vineyards owned by Manuel Eugénio Fernandes, this wine is the result of two distinct vinification processes. Aged in different environments—at the Barbeito warehouse in Funchal and the MEF warehouse near Seixal beach—this Frasqueira is a unique blend of 60% Funchal wine (lower acidity and some residual sugar) and 40% Seixal wine (high acidity and saline character). The result is a wine with a unique identity, bottled in February 2024.
Wine Characteristics and Profile
This Frasqueira displays balanced acidity combined with subtle sweetness and an intriguing saline note, resulting in a rich and complex sensory experience. The harmonious blend of the two vinifications lends the wine unparalleled depth and elegance.
Vineyards and Vinification
The Sercial grapes from Seixal are hand-harvested and vinified in two stages. The wine is aged under distinct conditions to achieve unique complexity. The aging process—in glass demijohns at the Barbeito warehouse and in casks at the MEF warehouse near Seixal beach—results in a wine with singular characteristics and a distinctive aromatic profile.
